Winter Season 2019
Congratulations to all our players who made it through to the 2019 Winter Season finals. Of the 84 Ivanhoe Knights teams that competed, 27 made it all the way through to the grand final on Saturday 14 September 2019. Of these, 10 boys teams and six girls teams emerged as premiers.
On Sunday 15 September we gathered at Ivanhoe East Primary School for our End of Season Celebration.
See photos from the day, including team photos on our galleries page and on our Facebook page.
A few fun facts from EDJBA Winter Season 2019:
- a total of 563,593 points were scored and 213,123 fouls recorded across the entire season and each age group
- more than 10,800 games were played with a total game time of about 260,000 minutes
- in the grand finals 239 games were played across 41 courts and of these, 16 games were decided by 1 point and 89 games by less than 5 points.
Summer Season 2019-20
Our registrations continue to grow. In Winter Season 2019 the Knights had a total of 84 teams – 28 girls and 56 boys. In this Summer Season 2019-20 we will top 100 teams for the first time!

The season runs throughout school Term 4 in 2019 and Term 1 in 2020. There are no games during school holidays or public holiday weekends.
There are no games on Saturday 2 November 2019 (Melbourne Cup weekend), during the government school summer holiday period or or on Saturday 7 March 2020 (Labour Day weekend).
Here are some of the key dates:

New developments this season
Cashless Saturdays – A reminder that the Eastern District Junior Basketball Association (EDJBA) competition is going cashless on game day as of Summer Season 2019-20. Weekly game fees were paid upfront as part of the registration process so the Saturday duty parent no longer has to collect game-day fees. Finals will still require cash on the day for entry and team sheets
TeamApp – As of this season we will be rolling out club-wide use of the TeamApp applications to assist our teams with communication and accessing key information quickly. Please download the app to your mobile device. More information will be released very soon. Stay-tuned!
Move to the reversible singlets – We continue to move to the reversible singlet and hope this change is club-wide within the next season. If you do plan on handing down old singlets please ensure they are the reversible ones as the non-reversible are being phased out.
Skills clinics
As part of our commitment to skills development the Junior Hoop Stars program is now bigger than ever. This term, for the first time, we’re offering two sessions each Friday for children from 5-8 years of age with little or no basketball experience.
The program runs for 10 weeks from Friday 11 October.
Book at: https://www.trybooking.com/BFRXY.

Rep tryouts
Do you want to make the move to Rep basketball later this year? The Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) 2019-20 Season is due to begin later in in Term 4 and if you wish to take part you need to tryout.
Players seeking a place in one of the Ivanhoe Darebin Knights junior championship teams in the VJBL 2019-20 competition must register and participate in a series of three tryout sessions too be held at the Darebin Community Sports Stadium, 857 Plenty Road, Reservoir during October.

New venues
We’re very excited to announce that we will soon have access to a number of new venues to support our growing membership base.
We recently visited the construction of new courts at La Trobe University (see above). The club plans to use three courts on Saturdays for games and will have additional access during the week for training in the new year!

New to the Knights?
Here’s a few tips for new players and their families:
Absence from training and games – Let your team manager know as early as possible if you won’t be at a training session or game.
Training sessions – Don’t forget to bring a water bottle and basketball.
Be on time – Aim to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start time for a game and 5 minutes before a training session.
Refs – Respect our referees, refrain from making comments about referees and their decisions.
