Skills clinics
The Ivanhoe Knights Basketball Club is committed to giving all our players -and potential players – opportunities to develop their basketball skills.
Last month we ran a series of ‘Introduction to rep basketball training’ sessions led by Michael and Sarsha Follacchio and David Mansfield.
Upcoming clinics include:
- July school holidays clinics – 2, 4, 9, & 11 July – we’re running four skills clinics for children 5-12 years
- Rep ready program – 21 & 28 July and 4 & 11 August – four sessions aimed at preparing players for the Ivanhoe Darebin Knights tryouts in October.
- Junior Hoop stars Term 3 – Fridays at 19 July to 13 September. Bookings.
Social
We’re holding our first-ever fundraiser Trivia Night on Saturday 10 August from 7 pm. The venue is our new sponsor PiGRO Bar & Grill, 239 Lower Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe East. Find out more.

Winter Season grading
We have 84 teams competing in the 2019 EDJBA Winter Season – 28 girls teams and 56 boys teams. Following the grading process we have:
- 4 teams in A (Girls U9 and U19) and AR division (two Boys U19 teams)
- 26 teams in B division
- 25 teams in C divsion
- 29 teams in D division.
Good luck to all our teams for the remainder of the season and the finals. Go Knights!
Ivanhoe Knights girls 09.01 team, graded to play A division this season.
Next season Summer 2019-20
We’re half-way through Winter Season now so it’s not too early to start thinking about Summer Season 2019-20.
Next season the EDJBA are introducing a cashless system for game fees. This means you won’t have to pay and collect the $8.50 each player for every game. We’re coming in line with the practices of many other sports where we collect the fees at the start of the season when registering.
We’re also planning to streamline our fees to make it easier for families. We will be providing more information on the changes coming after an EDJBA special meeting at the end of July. This is expected to see a change to a permanent odd-age group numbering system for every season. This means there won’t be U10, U12, U14 etc. in Summer but rather U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 and an U20 team every season.
Rep basketball
Want to take your basketball to the next level and play in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL)? Through our membership of the Ivanhoe Darebin Basketball Association (IDBA), Ivanhoe Knights players have a number of opportunities to prepare for and play representative basketball, also known as rep basketball.
Earlier this month we ran a series of ‘Introduction to rep basketball training’ sessions led by our Coaching Director Michael Follacchio and in Term 3 we will be running a series of ‘Rep ready’ sessions.
The ‘Rep ready’ program will be held over four consecutive Sundays from 21 July to 11 August (2-3 pm for girls and 3-4 pm for boys) at a total cost of $100 per player. Find out more.
To book go to www.trybooking.com/BDLFK or send an email to admin@dev.ivanhoeknights.org. Access a fact sheet on representative basketball.
Committee of Management
The last 12 months has seen some significant change to the Committee both in terms of its members and how the committee structures itself around what is important. The current committee and the roles they are fulfilling can be found on the Governance page of our website.
We would like to thank everyone who has served on the Committee and for many of them these have been very long tenures. Our thanks go to Paula Paziotis, Ian Holm, Pam McColl, Carl Ziebell, Clive Vickers, Tim Butler, Mark Gao, Marco De Jonge, Julia De Jonge, Rachel Mansfield, Karen Horbach and Chris Wignall.
Harlem Globetrotters
The Ivanhoe Knights put together two exhibition teams of 10-12-year-old girls to play at half-time during a Harlem Globetrotters performance on 7 April 2019 at the Melbourne Arena. It was a very exciting opportunity for our girls.
See more photos on our galleries page.
Sponsors
Our sponsors are important to ensuring the club’s success.
Bendigo Bank has for many years provided most of the funding for our coaching development, but we’re hoping proceeds from the Trivia Night will also help us with this area.
East Ivanhoe Foodworks is a great supporter of our club events through their shopping points program and last season contributed the majority of food for our end of season celebration.
This month we welcomed two new sponsors PiGRO Bar & Grill in East Ivanhoe and Ivanhoe Dental.
Please support our sponsors so they can support us. Go to our Sponsors page to find out how.
That’s all folks! Go Knights! Don’t forget to like us on Facebook.
