Success at the Eltham Dandenong tournament
Over the Australia Day weekend, the Boys 18.1s team achieved a terrific result by winning their division at the 2014 Eltham Dandenong Basketball tournament. The team, comprising Tim Sullivan, Harry Prendergast, Lachlan McDonald, Wesley Kennedy, Alistair Clayton, Luke Filling, James Fitsioris and Sam Sciculna, entered the competition with the sole intent of shaking off the summer cobwebs. The team certainly did that and also walked away with some silverware for their trouble.
Competing against strong opposition from Craigieburn, St Helena, Greenhills, Coburg, Nunawading and Eltham, the team won 5 of 6 games to finish atop the pool. The highlight of the tournament came in the Grand Final where down by 8 points and with only 5 minutes to play against St Helena, the Knights finished on a 18-1 run to run out winners 46-37.
While everyone put in a great effort in the final, Alistair Clayton was awarded the MVP of the final. It was also good to see some of the club stalwarts, as well as a large band of supporters in attendance for the grand final.
We hope to see more Ivanhoe teams compete at the 2015 tournament. The event provides a lot of enjoyment and is a great learning experience for players, coaches and parents alike. Congratulations to the team.
